Sophie Ellis-Bextor first entered the dance music scene when she collaborated with a House Music DJ named Spiller. Together, they had a huge dance hit with “Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)” in the year 2000. Before that, she was the lead singer of an Indie rock band called Theaudience. Going solo definitely had its advantages, and she soon became a household name, releasing pop and dance music and scoring a slew of hits throughout the 2000s.

FUN FACT: Sophie got her last name from both parents who were in the film industry. Her mother was Janet Ellis, a presenter on BBC’s children’s programs Blue Peter and Jigsaw. Her father was Robin Bextor, a Film Producer and Director. Sometimes Sophie, as a child, would make an appearance on the show Blue Peter alongside her mother. And her father directed Sophie’s DVD release called Watch My Lips.
