You may know Bette Midler as a successful actress and comedian, but she is also a very talented singer and performer. Bette got her start acting in broadway plays before singing in gay bathhouses. She released her debut single and album in the early 70s, and jumped on the disco train in the same decade. In fact, she had her first charting single on the US Billboard Dance Club chart in 1976 with “Strangers In The Night,” peaking at #7. Throughout her career, she has been primarily recording in the traditional pop and ballad genre, but she’s managed to get enough dance remix treatments by DJ’s to rack up a number of hit singles over on the dance chart.
Bette has won an outstanding number of awards including six American Comedy Awards, three Grammy Awards, four Golden Globes, three Emmy Awards, two People’s Choice Awards, a TV Guide Award, and a Tony Award. She has sold over 30 million records worldwide, and has received four Gold, three Platinum, and three multi-Platinum albums by RIAA. She has headlined over 20 different concert tours, acted in over 30 motion-picture films, starred in nine stage shows, and has donated to multiple charities. She is definitely the most Divine Miss M!
