The Jets is a family affair. They are a freestyle pop-dance band composed of various brothers and sisters from a large family in Minnesota. Each band member contributes to playing an instrument, as well as their vocals for harmony. They gained popularity in the 80s when they accumulated five Top 10 singles on the US Billboard Hot 100. Over on the dance chart, they collected four Top 10 hits, with one of them reaching the top spot.
The Jets are all part of the Wolfgramm family, whose parents were originally from the South Pacific island of Tonga. Overall, there are 17 children, and the band began with just 8 of the oldest children. Over the decades, some of the siblings left the group and were replaced with the younger generation.
FUN FACT: The band initially called themselves Quasar, after a popular brand of television sets from the 70s. They later changed their name to “The Jets,” which was taken from the Elton John song “Bennie and the Jets.” This was on the suggestion of their then-manager, Don Powell.
