In the late 80’s, Karyn White was singing with the jazz-pop group The Jeff Lorber Band. She had a few hit singles with the group, but it wasn’t until she went solo that she achieved substantial worldwide success with her dance and R&B hit singles. Her debut track, “The Way You Love Me,” climbed to #7 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, #1 on the Hot R&B chart, and #5 on the Dance Club Songs chart. She eventually earned a #1 on the dance chart with her single “Secret Rendezvous.” She became the first female artist to have the first three solo releases from their debut album hit #1 on the R&B charts.
