My first introduction to Donna DeLory was through the Madonna world tours, beginning with the Who’s That Girl Tour in 1987. She continued to travel with Madonna and sing backup on all world tours through 2007. During that time, Donna was writing and recording her own music and released a number of albums and singles. One of her first singles from her debut album climbed the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart to peak at #10. That song, “Just A Dream,” was coincidentally written and recorded by Madonna for her fourth album, Like A Prayer. However, Madonna offered it to Donna after concluding that it didn’t have a suitable fit with her new album track list. Madonna also sang backup on the track for Donna’s versions.
Donna generated a few more singles on the dance chart, with the help of some great DJ’s like Mac Quayle, Junior Vasquez, and Warren Rigg. Her biggest being the single “The Hurting,” which climbed to #8.
Donna’s most notable music genre is her love of world music, combining a new age sound with ambient and electronic pop. It is a rare mystical and beautiful sound that delivers her soft healing voice into a calming yoga musical soundtrack.
While touring with Madonna on various world tours, Donna met Niki Haris. Together, they became a staple of Madonna’s most famous concerts and performances in the 80s and 90s. Their voices harmonized so beautifully, inspiring them to record music together. In fact, they recently recorded an EP, simply titled “Two Friends.” It began as an online campaign to allow pledgers to fund their musical project, and I am happy to have contributed to the project. It turned out so incredibly amazing!
