Dido started out as a guest vocalist for the UK dance group Faithless. Faithless consists of three members: Maxi Jazz, Sister Bliss and Rollo. As a dance remix fan, you may recognize the names Sister Bliss & Rollo, as they had once teamed up to remix other artists’ dance songs in the late 90’s. On another note, Rollo (aka Rowland Armstrong) is the older brother of Dido.
As a solo artist, she released her first single “Here With Me” in 1999, with much success everywhere but the US. It wasn’t until her third single that American audiences were properly introduced to her. That was when American rapper Eminem received permission from Dido herself to sample the first verse of her song “Thank You” into his hit single “Stan.” She also appeared in the “Stan” music video as Stan’s pregnant girlfriend. That recognition helped push her track to the #3 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100, and also to #1 on the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. She has had several number one dance club hits since then.
