Carly Rae Jepsen got her start in 2007, when she competed on the fifth season of Canadian Idol. It was a year later that she released a folk album. It only achieved minor success in her home country. It was in 2011 that Carly decided to go more pop, and released the track “Call Me Maybe.” That’s when another fellow Canadian pop singer, Justin Bieber, promoted the single on Twitter. The next month, it was featured in a viral video in which Justin, Selena Gomez, and Ashley Tisdale lip-synced and danced to it. The attention was enough to put Carly and her new single in high demand. The track actually climbed the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and spent nine whole weeks at number one, and also became the best-selling single of 2012 worldwide.
Carly’s next few albums were recorded with a dance and disco influence. DJ’s and remixers were more than happy to put her music on the dancefloor. She just achieved her first #1 on the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart with her single, “OMG,” with American DJ and producer, Gryffin.
